I love this place. Superb egg rolls. Scallion pancakes nice and light and airy. Walnut chicken had a white, slightly sweet sauce that was delicious. Pan fried noodles were crispy but not greasy and Mu shu pork was terrific. I’m coming back asap.

Tongs Hunan in Northbrook is a fantastic spot for delicious Chinese cuisine! The menu offers a great variety of dishes, from classic favorites to more unique options. The flavors are consistently impressive, with the perfect balance of spices and seasonings.The service is friendly and efficient, making dining here a pleasant experience. The portions are generous, ensuring you get good value for your money. I particularly enjoyed the Kung Pao Chicken and the Hunan Beef—both were flavorful and cooked to perfection.The ambiance is cozy and inviting, ideal for a casual dinner with family or friends. The only reason I’m giving it four stars instead of five is that sometimes the wait time can be a bit long, especially during peak hours. However, the quality of the food makes it worth the wait.Overall, Tongs Hunan is a wonderful choice for anyone craving tasty Chinese food in Northbrook. I’ll definitely be returning!

I've been going here regularly both for dine-in and carryout since roughly 2002. The place has never changed at all in that time and it's great. I decided to chime-in after seeing some reviews that just don't understand how Tong's works.The service is fast. That's their thing. It's been this way forever. They're very busy at lunchtime and want to turn over tables quickly. This is not a place to lounge around for 45 minutes. You get really good piping hot Chinese food and then you get back to your life ASAP. If you don't like that then order takeout (which is also fast but you are free to enjoy at any pace you choose).The sesame chicken is my favorite but I've never had anything there that was bad. The weekday lunch specials are huge and come with sides, they're a solid value.

One of the best Chinese restaurants in and around North suburbs. First to set expectations - the restaurant is small and they adequately compensate for their size by their quick food turnaround.The service is phenomenal - they attend to you quickly, food is brought to the table almost immediately (the max I have waited for food to arrive was probably 5-6 mins) and food is fresh and hot. Due to their quick service, they have a well oiled machine of customer inflow/outflow.Now for their food - one of the best tasting Chinese food I have ever had. They're portions are pretty large (not enormous) so you are filled up. Very tasty and they have a pretty good selection and variation.
